About the Piece
Long flat fetter links alternate with short round cable links, so the chain reads as a bold repeating pattern rather than a uniform rope. It is the classic Albert layout, made to carry a pocket watch across a waistcoat.
The links are thick where they join, which is exactly where antique chains usually give out. This one is solid at every connection and has no repairs anywhere along it.
The colour is worth mentioning. Nine carat gold carries more copper than higher karats, and this chain has taken on a warm rosy tone with age that sits beautifully against skin. It reads softer and pinker than a 14 or 18 carat chain would.
At 41.36 grams it has real weight in the hand. Both dog clips still open and close crisply.
Styling
At 15 inches it sits high, right at the collarbone, which makes it a strong choice worn on its own. A dog clip at each end means you can hang a pendant from either side, clip the chain back to itself for a shorter loop, or swap charms in and out without tools.
Authentication & Metal Verification
This piece has been tested using XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) analysis to confirm gold purity and authenticity. In addition to the British hallmarks on every link, we have verified the composition of the chain itself. We will provide the purchaser with a copy of the XRF report for their records. This is an extra level of transparency rarely available with antique jewelry.
Condition
Excellent antique condition. Hallmarks are in good shape, though the maker's mark is a little faded. Links are strong and thick at the connections, not flimsy. Both dog clips work well. No repairs.
All estate, vintage and antique jewelry is sold AS IS, with no repairs or enhancements.
