About the Piece
Repousse means the design is pushed out from behind, so the raised cross and the teardrop bosses in each quarter stand physically proud of the surface rather than being stamped into it. It is slower work than stamping and it gives the piece a depth you can feel with a thumb.
Between the raised elements the field is filled with stamped arrows, chevrons and crescents, all struck by hand. A small Kingman turquoise sits at the crossing point in a twisted rope bezel, and it is the only colour on the piece.
The bail is its own object: an ornate stamped tube hung on a plain silver ring, so the concho swings freely rather than sitting rigid.
Kingman is one of the oldest and best known Arizona mines, still producing, known for clean bright blue with dark matrix.
Styling
It hangs from a wide stamped bail that takes a heavy chain, so it will sit on Navajo pearls, a thick box chain, or a leather cord without looking under hung. Worn alone it does all the work; it does not need layering.
Condition
Excellent. Newly made and unworn, with the deep oxidized finish the maker applies to the stamped recesses.
