An all silver concho ring by Chimney Butte, twelve stamped petals around a domed centre button, no stone.

Specifications

  • Metal: Sterling silver
  • Artist: Chimney Butte (Navajo)
  • Made: 2026
  • Ring size: US 6.25
  • Weight: 14.36 grams

Hallmarks

  • Chimney Butte, script maker's stamp
  • Sterling

Both marks are struck on the back. The Chimney Butte stamp is the maker's mark; Sterling is the silver standard.

About the Piece

Twelve petals radiate from a small domed button at the centre, each one filled with a fan stamp and separated by a deep chiselled line. The whole face is oxidised dark in the recesses and left bright on the raised surfaces, so the pattern reads clearly from a distance.

No stone, which is the point. This is a piece about stamping, and the maker has left nothing to distract from it.

The scalloped outer edge follows the petals rather than sitting as a plain circle, so the silhouette on the hand is a flower rather than a disc.

Chimney Butte is a Navajo (Dine) silversmith working out of New Mexico in a deliberately old style idiom: heavy gauge sterling, deep hand stamping, repousse, sandcast work, and good named mine turquoise. The mark is one of the most recognisable in contemporary Southwestern silver, which is part of why the work holds its value. Every piece is stamped Chimney Butte and Sterling on the back.

Styling

A quiet piece for stacking or for wearing alone when you want silver without a stone. The oxidised recesses keep the stamping readable at arm's length.

Condition

Excellent. Newly made and unworn, with the deep oxidised finish the maker applies to the stamped recesses.
