Heavy, architectural, and unmistakably stone-forward, this cuff is a true collector’s piece.
About the Artist – Alvin Yellowhorse
Alvin Yellowhorse is an internationally recognized Navajo silversmith working out of Lupton, Arizona. A second-generation artist trained by his father, Frank Yellowhorse, he has been creating jewelry since 1987.
His work has earned multiple awards at prestigious Native American art shows, including:
• Santa Fe Indian Market
• Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market
He is known for:
• Innovative bracelet-on-bracelet construction
• Precision hand-fabrication (cut, filed, and built from raw silver sheet)
• Blending traditional Navajo silversmithing with contemporary design
Stone – Royal Web / New Lander Variscite (Nevada)
The centerpiece is a rare, high-grade Royal Web variscite, sometimes referred to as New Lander.
• Origin: Crescent Valley, Nevada (1980s discovery)
• Material: Hydrous aluminum phosphate (not turquoise)
• Color: Deep green to teal with golden and white zones
• Matrix: Dense black spiderweb veining
• Finish: High silica content → takes a glass-like polish
Why it matters:
This material is often mistaken for turquoise due to its appearance, but it is significantly rarer in high-grade webbed form. Collector-grade pieces like this are increasingly scarce.
Center Setting – Hand-Fabricated Bezel
• Tall, sculptural sawtooth bezel
• Each tooth hand cut and hand filed
• ~4 hours of labor just in bezel construction
• Elevates the stone visually and physically → true focal dominance
Bracelet-on-Bracelet Construction (Signature Design)
• Raised central platform mounted on a wider cuff base
• Creates depth, dimension, and structural presence
• One of Yellowhorse’s most recognized and awarded techniques
Side Composition (Layered Inlay Work)
Each segment is intentionally composed:
Black Jade
• Deep, textured surface
• Adds contrast and visual weight
Red Coral
• Left in a more natural, slightly rough state
• Provides bold, organic contrast against the polished silver
Turquoise (Cripple Creek, Colorado)
• Flanks the coral sections
• Adds balance and continuity to the overall palette
Buffalo Nickel Accent
• Sterling silver buffalo motif
• Adds a vintage Americana narrative
• Bridges Native craftsmanship with historical symbolism
Opposite Side Detail
• Inlay transitions into .999 fine silver
• Clean, bright contrast against the oxidized textures
• Subtle but intentional design balance
Cuff Body
• Heavy gauge sterling silver (134 grams)
• Hand-stamped geometric texture throughout
• Twisted and sculpted edges
• Interior polished smooth for comfort
