About Wild Horse Stone
Wild Horse stone, also known as Crazy Horse or Appaloosa stone, is a naturally occurring metamorphic stone valued for its bold contrast and organic character. It is composed primarily of white magnesite with rich brown and rust-toned mottling, often influenced by iron-bearing minerals such as hematite.
First brought into wider use in the mid-1990s near Globe, Arizona, Wild Horse stone is found in rugged terrain where material must often be carried out by hand, contributing to its limited availability. While sometimes referred to as White Turquoise or Wild Horse Turquoise, it is important to note that Wild Horse stone is not turquoise.
With a Mohs hardness of approximately 4, Wild Horse requires careful handling and skilled craftsmanship in both setting and finishing. When properly worked, it produces striking statement jewelry with strong visual impact and lasting appeal.
