Chimney Butte White Buffalo Pendant, Scalloped Oval Concho, Navajo Sterling
A scalloped oval concho worked in concentric bands of hand stamping around a single White Buffalo cabochon, by Chimney Butte.

Both marks are struck on the back. Chimney Butte is the maker's mark; Sterling is the silver standard.
About the Piece
This is the most heavily stamped piece in the group. The oval is edged in deep scallops, and inside that edge several borders of stamping ring the stone: sunbursts, fine rays and repeating arcs, each struck by hand one punch at a time and oxidised dark in the recesses.
The stone is an oval White Buffalo about 27.5 mm long, white with grey and black chert breaking across it, set in a plain bezel. Above and below it sit two rounded silver domes with a small fluted button between them, so the composition is symmetrical top to bottom.
The bail is a wide plain band, deliberately unstamped so it does not compete, and wide enough for a heavy chain.
White Buffalo is a white stone with black chert matrix, mined in Nevada. It is not turquoise, despite the trade often calling it white turquoise.
Chimney Butte is a Navajo (Dine) silversmith working out of New Mexico in a deliberately old style idiom: heavy gauge sterling, deep hand stamping, repousse, sandcast work, and good named mine turquoise. The mark is one of the most recognisable in contemporary Southwestern silver, which is part of why the work holds its value. This piece is stamped Sterling and Chimney Butte on the back.
Styling
The bail is wide and flat, made for a heavy chain rather than a fine one. It will sit well on Navajo pearls, a thick box chain or a leather cord. Worn alone it does all the work and does not need layering.
Condition
Excellent. Newly made and unworn, with the deep oxidised finish the maker applies to the stamped recesses.
