Chimney Butte is the maker's mark; Sterling is the silver standard.

About the Piece

The stones are the whole piece. Three of them, each around 45 by 14 mm, standing tall in deep plain bezels with nothing stamped or applied to compete. Number 8 material of this size is genuinely hard to find, since the Nevada mine closed in the 1960s and everything on the market now comes from old stock.

The colour reads brown before it reads blue. Each stone is mostly golden brown and rust host rock with turquoise coming through it in a broad spiderweb of sky blue and green patches, which is the look Number 8 is collected for. No two of the three are alike.

The band is deliberately plain and only 18 mm wide, with a small silver ball at each shoulder. Set this high, the stones sit well above the wrist, so this is a cuff you notice on the arm rather than one that disappears under a cuff.

The Number 8 mine in Nevada closed in the 1960s, so the stone only comes from old stock now. It is prized for heavy golden brown to black spiderweb matrix.

Chimney Butte is a Navajo (Dine) silversmith working out of New Mexico in a deliberately old style idiom: heavy gauge sterling, deep hand stamping, repousse, sandcast work, and good named mine turquoise. The mark is one of the most recognisable in contemporary Southwestern silver, which is part of why the work holds its value. This piece is stamped Sterling and Chimney Butte on the back.

Styling

A wide cuff carries a wrist on its own, so wear it with the arm otherwise bare or with one plain bangle for company. There is flex in the band: it can be opened or closed a little to fit. Do that once, gently, with both hands on the terminals, then leave it. Sterling work-hardens each time it is bent, and it is repeated adjustment that cracks a cuff.

Condition

Excellent. Newly made and unworn, with the deep oxidised finish the maker applies to the stamped recesses.

Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

This listing is for one cuff only.

If you like what you see, please follow along at @sterlingstyleshop on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sterlingstyleshop/

As always, if you have any questions or would like additional photos or video, please message me.

https://sterlingstyleshop.com/products/chimney-butte-number-8-turquoise-cuff-three-large-stones-navajo-sterling-silver
